Who We Are

Aethem (AY-thum) is an old English world for "air exhaled from the lungs," "residual breath," or “the breath of inspiration.”  We strive to create meaningful theatre that provokes thought and inspires change, and through ensemble work, we seek to move, be moved, and move others.

Since 2009, Aethem has existed as a way for artists to come together in community and create dynamic, original theatre.  Aethem was birthed from a love for movement-based theatre and devised work, and even though we often produce scripted pieces, that love still informs everything we do.  We choose to work in ensemble because it allows us to be open with each other in a safe space, ensures everyone is heard without structural hierarchy, and lets us celebrate failures and successes together.  Plus, it's fun!
